ECC MISSIONS

Some of the last words Jesus said before He ascended was what we call the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19–20).

In Acts we see Jesus say something similar: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8).

We take these words of Jesus very seriously. The phrases “make disciples of all nations” and “you will be my witnesses…in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” imply the need and command for a global mindset in the Church’s pursuit of making disciples. Missions, then, is a pursuit born of discipleship and is therefore a part of our own growth as individual followers of Jesus.

This is why we are blessed to spread the Good News of Jesus not only in our local and national communities but also communities around the world. We partner domestically with churches in the Northeast part of our country in places like Delaware, New York, and Massachusetts. We partner globally with churches and organizations that support churches like Kasr El Dobara Evangelical Church in Egypt, Eastern European Missions, and King’s Castle in El Salvador.

In 2009, I began my ministry journey with a mission trip to Japan… I recall a train ride from Tokyo to Iwaki, and during the nearly six-hour journey through the inner city and rural country, I did not see a single church and only one or two Buddhist and Shinto temples.

I share this because, nearly 15 years later, I am serving in New England, a region with a similar Christian population of about 3%. The difference here is that we see rundown and often abandoned churches everywhere… I recall being ridiculed and criticized for leaving beautiful Central Florida to answer the call of ministry in a region dubbed “the graveyard for pastors” and “New England, Land of the Frozen Chosen.” But I believe there is a gentle promise in my heart that if we walk in obedience, we can co-labor with many faithful Christians to see a spark ignite…

“From the moment we met Pastor Corey at a conference in Orlando, with him doing what he does best and striking up conversations with strangers, we could tell this was a divine relationship in the making.

Starting a church in the North East of the United States isn’t for the faint-hearted. We knew it was going to be an uphill battle from the beginning, but that doesn’t really prepare you for the late nights of wondering if you’re “doing the right thing,” or the cold and sometimes outright nasty comments from people you’re trying to talk to.

What started as a casual conversation with Pastor Corey grew into so much more… The messages and funding when our entire region was shut down and unable to gather during the peak of COVID were just the start.

Commit to Prayer
Prayer is the best way to support all mission work; pray for provision, protection, and for people to receive Jesus with open arms. This is a team effort, and we are so grateful for the prayers for those spreading and hearing the gospel.

Give Financially
Giving financially allows us to further the work of the gospel. There are opportunities throughout the year to donate to mission trip teams or missionaries we support on the ground. We appreciate all of the ways the generous people in our congregation continue to support missions and are excited to see His name exalted all over the world.
