Encounter is a welcoming place, filled with students who are okay with being a bit weird for Jesus. During the weekend services, Encounter is comprised of high school students. During each Wednesday night service, Encounter includes both high school and middle school students.
When students participate in Encounter, they are surrounded by men and women who have their best interests in mind and who strive to welcome them in like family. The goal is to help the students understand that being a Christ follower takes work and dedication and it is okay to be labeled as weird for the gospel because God calls us to be a peculiar people who engage with a fallen world. So, we want to “Keep Encounter Weird!”
At the heart of this ministry, we want to provide each student with a safe place where they can belong while learning the truth and becoming a more authentic follower of Jesus Christ. Culture sends students messages counter to the Word of God, so it’s paramount to provide a place where they’re excited to hear and learn the truth.
If you have a heart for high school and middle school students and want to help draw them to Christ, Encounter is a great place for you to serve at ECC. From being a Life Group leader to helping with worship, student ministry volunteers help provide an authentic place for students to grow in their faith.
ENCOUNTER ADULT LEADERS
The backbone of Encounter is our team of adult leaders. These leaders are a consistent presence every Wednesday, and their goal is to build relationships with students so that we can make disciples who make disciples. We have a variety of leadership roles based on your skills and available time, but our primary role is Life Group Leader. Each Life Group Leader co-leads a small group of students during Wednesday night Encounter and focuses intentionally on those specific students.
All our leaders are required to go through a background check for the security of the students and to fill out an application that provides more information regarding background, service, etc. (application link below). This is mainly to ensure that all our leaders live a life above reproach and have a healthy, strong relationship with God before leading teenagers.
Serving at Encounter is a fantastic opportunity to build relationships and to pour into the next generation. Our leadership team is made up of many different people. We embrace diversity in our team, as it allows students to have opportunities to connect with a variety of people. To serve with Encounter, individuals must be at least 21 years old or older.
