Day 3 | Parting the Red Sea

Read Exodus 14:19-31

The glory of God is something that we read about countless times in Scripture, both in the Old and New Testaments. God’s glory is often described with words such as radiant or light, and as something that has weight to it. God chooses to show His glory in different ways throughout Scripture, sometimes in signs and wonders, as we see in Exodus 14, and other times in a more literal sense like in Exodus 33. In Exodus 14, God is near the end of delivering His people from the Egyptians. Every event and countless years that led up to this moment further prove the glory of God and how He works things out in His own time.

I can hardly imagine what the Israelites must have been thinking as they stood on the Red Sea shore. They had come so far but ran out of road. How many times in my life have I felt that way, too? It’s easy to trust God when things are going great, but the instant something seems too difficult or even impossible, God shows up. And man, He showed up for the Israelites. God shows his glory because, as humans with feeble minds, this is what we can handle. We cannot look upon God in his full splendor because we would fall dead. Instead, God reveals himself when He can, in ways that we might understand, so that we may draw closer to Him. For the Israelites, He literally made a way where there was no way, by parting a sea!

I want to encourage you to seek His glory. Don’t overlook the little things because you’re hyper-focused on the signs and wonders. Look for His glory every day. He might not part a sea for you, but I can promise you that He’s still making a way when there seems to be no way.
