Make Disciples of All Nations
Our mission at the Experience Community Church is to make authentic followers of Jesus. It’s why we do everything we do. This goal wasn’t something we came up with on our own; it’s biblical. Some of the last words Jesus said on earth before he ascended were, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:19–20). The apostle Paul also said, “As we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all” (Gal. 6:10).
“We should have a desire for all people to come into relationship with Jesus.”
As followers of Christ, we should have a desire for all people to come into relationship with Jesus. All people in this case should truly be all people. We should care about the impoverished boy living without parents or shelter in Africa, and we should also care about the successful European woman who has what some would call a pretty ideal life, yet feels hollow and knows there is something missing. Both people are made in the image of God, and we have the same burden to share the gospel with them.
Some Christians approach mission work expecting only to visit communities of the poorest people in the world to give them the tangible resources they lack. That is good work, but we’ve missed something if we aren’t sharing the news of Jesus with them. We’ve also missed something if we pass over the affluent parts of the world and never take the time to invest in their spiritual growth. Paul also wrote, “How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher?” (Rom. 10:14).
