We need God in our lives more than anyone or anything. Our lives are so much better when He is our focus. But often, we are distracted by the busyness of life and we focus more on our everyday physical surroundings than our true spiritual needsโconfusing the urgent for the important.
Fasting is a great way to grow closer to God and open your life to Him so He can change you for the better. But it requires intentionality. As a church, ECC is committing to a 40-day fast, and we would love to have you join us. Below, you will find some answers to basic fasting questions and all the details about our upcoming fast.
Why do we fast?
To intentionally grow closer to God.
How do we fast?
Remove distractions. Here are some ideas:
- Cut out certain foods
- Abstain from social media
- Abstain from secular media (music, TV, movies, etc.)
Then what do we do?
Increase the time and focus you give to your relationship with God. Here are some ways you can do that:
- Set aside time for quiet prayer
- Read the Bible
- Use a devotional

In our ๐ฐ๐ต๐๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต-๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฌ-๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ณ๐ฎ๐๐, we will be fasting and reading through a devotion each day starting January 13th, 2025. We will spend time intentionally seeking God through prayer and fasting together. This is a great way to bring growth in our personal lives and our church community, so plan to join us!
๐ฃ๐ต๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ of the 40-day Fast Devotional, The Gospel of John & 1โ3 John, will be available for $2 during services starting the weekend of December 28thโ29th.
We will have three booklets available:
- The Fast Devotional booklet: $2
- The Student Guide (for middle and high school students to use alongside the main devotional booklets): These are free and can be picked up in EON/Encounter.
- The Childrenโs Guide (for Kโ5th grade): These are free and can be picked up in ECCO Kids.
When the fast begins on January 13th, 2025:
The written devotion will be posted daily on the ECC Blog with links to the podcast.
A free digital copy of the Fast Devotional booklet will be available on the ECC app and website.
