5000 Ministry (S)
Serving With 5000
5000 is relationship-based and focuses on building trust as well as relationships that are intentional with those in need throughout our community.
We believe Jesus called us as his followers to clothe, feed, & care for those who are in need. We also strongly believe that it is our duty as the local church to address the issues of poverty facing us in our own community. For us, that means showing compassion and building relationships with the homeless and low-income community in Shelbyville. Those involved in the ministry also build and foster relationships with individuals in poverty throughout the week. Volunteering with this ministry requires a lifestyle committed to integrity, sensitivity, dependability, and responsibility (we require all volunteers to be on time, follow directions for the purpose of safety, and to commit to serving for a set time).
Volunteers have an hour of group time where we go through books, devotionals, and have a time of prayer and then we go to serve our homeless friends. The key to this whole ministry is truly investing in the homeless on the weekends as well as throughout the week once that relationship has been built.
